Talk about sustainable transport: Lexus on Monday unveiled an "origami inspired" vehicle that's made out of cardboard and runs on an electric engine.
The carmaker teamed up with LaserCut Works and Scales and Models Company to create the replica IS model, fitting 1,700 recyclable sheets of cardboard over a steel and aluminum frame.
Sure, like the company's hoverboard from this summer, the cardboard car is pretty clearly a marketing gimmick expertly designed to drum up brand awareness. In fairness, though, it is pretty sweet-looking.
"This was a very demanding job, with five people involved in the digital design, modeling, laser cutting and assembly," Ruben Marcos, head of Scales and Models Company, said in a statement. "Just like Lexus, we were committed to producing the best possible quality."
