Last week the drummer for the Metallica tribute band Blistered Earth posted to the band’s Facebook page to let everyone know that a bunch of the band’s gear had recently gone missing after a gig in Portland, Oregon.

“These are my drums, they’re big, bad & beat to shit. They were also stolen from me on Saturday in Portland after our gig at Rock Hard PDX along with rest of our equipment & trailer,” he said.

The band catalogued everything they had stolen, including five guitars, multiple amplifiers, seven guitar pedals and an entire drum set ― a sum Blistered Earth estimated to be worth about $20,000. Here’s a full list of everything the band reportedly lost:

People replied to Blistered Earth’s post offering their condolences.

“Man that really sucks. You guys were some of the nicest people I met. I had a really good time talking to you and I hope you find the culprits,” one fan wrote.

Smartly, the band had everything insured. But the news got even better a few days later after two local Portland news outlets, KATU and KOIN 6, reported on the news.

Sometimes when bad things happen it really brings out the best in people,” the band wrote. “Thanx to the the attention you guys helped bring to the matter of our stolen gear & KATU and KOIN in Portland airing the story, James & the rest of the guys in Metallica ( thanx guys) have seen fit to replace our equipment. Thank you guys!!”

Just to be sure, we reached out to Metallica’s people to confirm the story on their end as well.

“Hi there, yes it’s true,” a publicist replied.
