Netflix Is Reportedly Reviving 'Gilmore Girls'

Best news ever?

"Gilmore Girls" may finally be coming back. For real this time.

Netflix is developing a new batch of episodes of the beloved show, which came to a close in 2007, TVLine's Michael Ausiello first reported Monday. The revival is expected to take the form of four 90-minute installments rather than a full season of hour-long episodes.

The original "Gilmore Girls" series ran for seven seasons, first on The WB and then on its successor network, The CW. The show ended eight years ago, but has gained a new generation of fans since it began streaming on Netflix last October. Though rumors of a revival have been circulating for years, they've picked up steam in the past few months. As recently as June, however, show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said no revival was in the works.

Netflix declined to comment on this report, so it's not 100 percent official yet. But the streaming service makes sense as a home for more "Gilmore Girls": not only does it have the first seven seasons, it has a history of reviving old shows.

Sherman-Palladino, who worked on the show for the first six seasons, will reportedly be in charge of the new episodes. Most of the cast -- including leads Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Scott Patterson -- is said to be returning as well. Melissa McCarthy, who played lead character Lorelei's best friend Sookie, apparently won't be, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (In case you haven't heard, she's a pretty big star these days.)

Sherman-Palladino and her husband, Daniel Palladino, another longtime writer for the show, left before the final season after negotiations with the network broke down. Since then, Sherman-Palladino has said she had an idea for how the series would end -- indeed, she has said she even planned the finale's last four words, but has never revealed them. If Sherman-Palladino is, in fact, involved in this rumored Netflix revival, there's a good chance we'll finally hear those four words.
