Donald Trump can do just about anything without fear of losing his supporters, including but not limited to saying women should be punished for having abortions, standing beside a campaign manager charged with battery of a reporter and encouraging general mayhem at his rallies.
Thankfully, "Saturday Night Live" has taken up the mantle of exposing Trump's carte blanche campaign with a cold open in this weekend's episode that asks how far Trump lovers will go to defend him.
In a CNN segment spoof, Kate McKinnon (as journalist Kate Bolduan) questions Cecily Strong, impersonating Trump diehard Scottie Nell Hughes, about the candidate's latest anti-woman statements.
“As a woman, I like Donald Trump, but as a full-blown nutjob, I freakin’ love him,” Strong aka Hughes immediately responds.
The two go back and forth, neither conceding any ground to the other, as McKinnon raises increasingly outrageous examples of Trump's antipathy toward women. At one point, the segment cuts to Darrell Hammond as Trump at a fake campaign rally, yelling “When I say women, you say suck!”
Strong, however, isn't swayed, excusing his comments as an April Fool's joke or texting errors.
"You can't break me, Kate," she says. "Because I'm crazy and crazy don't break."
But her most passionate stance happens to be on trade issues because Trump, of course, just wants to "make American grapes again."
