Winter may be over in a hurry on the east coast, with warmer days forecast for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane -- while Canberra will shake off its snowy conditions.

This Saturday, the thermostat in Sydney and Brisbane is expected to hit a balmy 25 degrees while Melbourne will hit a monthly high of 19 degrees -- a welcome bump from the month’s mean high temperature of 14.5 degrees.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Scott Williams said Victorians were hanging out for a warm day.

“July was the the coldest winter month for 20 years so now that we’re a few days off spring, it’s nice to see the temperature threatening to get near 20 degrees,” Williams said.

He said Melburnians hadn’t felt a day over 20 degrees since May 18.

In Sydney the water surface temperature hit 19 degrees on Tuesday. Manly Surf School coaching director Matt Grainger said it was great for business.

"We had a mid-week class last week and by about 1pm, it was so warm, and we had 19 people rock up," Grainger said.

"That's pretty rare for a winter session."
