Are You Doing 10,000 Steps A Day? This Might Motivate You

The average Australian worker takes less than one third of the recommended daily 10,000 steps. Alarming really when you consider that sitting is the new smoking.

If you need motivation to get moving, consider doing STEPtember. Created to support Cerebral Palsy Alliance -- the initiative asks people to sign up in teams of four -- after which you’ll be given pedometers to track activity and log it online.

And it's not just walking that counts -- a pilates class will give you 4160 steps, yoga class 4060 steps and swimming 6048 steps -- among other activities.

Australia’s youngest ever paralympian, 15 year old Ben Tudhope -- who has cerebral palsy affecting his left side -- is urging Australians to sign up. Tudhope carried the Australian flag at Sochi Paralympic Games and at age 14 was the youngest paralympian to participate.

"Life is meant to be lived and the only limitations are the ones we place on ourselves,” said Tudhope.
