NSW Labor MP Courtney Houssos wants state parliament to change its rules to allow her to bring her 19-month-old daughter Anna into the chamber during votes.
Ms Houssos could not enter the NSW Legislative Council to vote holding her daughter Anna when division bells rang, because parliamentary rules do not allow "strangers in the house."

Opposition Whip Shaoquett Moselmane seeks to amend the rules, asking Legislative Council president Don Harwin to exempt children under four years from being considered 'strangers' and make parliament a "family friendly workplace."
Mr Harwin said he intends to ask the procedures committee to examine any changes that might be made to consider children older than breastfeeding age.
