Fury as Cecil the lion's killer Walter Palmer returns to work

There were angry scenes in Minnesota on Tuesday as the US dentist who sparked an international outcry by killing a lion in Zimbabwe returned to work.

Cecil the lion was a major tourist attraction who was was renowned for being friendly towards visitors, but Walter Palmer said he had been unaware of the animal's significance.

He told the Associated Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune that he had acted legally, but said that if he had known who the animal was he would not have killed it.
