It’s a disease that can take away memories of loved ones and the basis of who you are, and there’s no known cure or preventative.

Dementia affects more than 342,800 Australians and that number is set to triple by 2050.

So what can you do to avoid it?

According to advocacy group Alzheimer’s Australia, the short answer is: not much.

There’s no scientifically proven way to avoid dementia, but there are risk factors that can be reduced.
