The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco and American tennis player Ryan Sweeting have announced plans to divorce.
"Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting have mutually decided to end their marriage," was the brief statement given by Cuoco's publicist to US media outlets.
"They ask for privacy at this time. No further statement will be issued regarding this matter," it said.
And with that - just three sentences - the pair's whirlwind marriage of 21 months was over.
Cuoco, 29, plays Penny in the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory; along with her co-stars Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons, she is now among one of the highest paid actors on television.
Sweeting, 28, is an American tennis champion. His highest world ranking was 64th in 2011; he is currently ranked 1145th in the world, the drop largely off the back of a series of injuries.
His strongest grand slam appearance was at 2012's Australian Open, when he reached the second round of the singles tournament, and the first round of the doubles tournament.
In September 2013, Sweeting and Cuoco announced their engagement. They had only been dating for three months at the time.
They were married in December the same year, in Santa Susana, California, at a property known as the Hummingbird Nest Ranch.
Cuoco wore a pink Vera Wang gown at the ceremony and later described it as the "greatest night of my entire life."
Despite the spectacular wedding, rumours have persisted for some time the couple were unhappy.
"I have never been more proud of anyone on this planet," Cuoco wrote on a social media account in April, adding that her husband was "fighting back from a whirlwind of injuries and ... constant "conversation" regarding our marriage."
