"Can you hear me now?"

National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden joined Twitter on Tuesday.

Snowden, who is currently living in Russia, alluded to Verizon in his first tweet, one of the phone companies that he disclosed was handing over the telephone records of millions of its U.S. customers under a secret court order.

Snowden will be controlling the account himself, his lawyer told The Intercept.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, the only account Snowden was following was that of the NSA.
