The Mysterious Structure 1500 Light Years Away That Are Making People Suggest It's Aliens

There's a not-so-scientific space term called 'the Goldilocks zone' that refers to somewhere that's not too hot and not too cold to sustain life.

In one such Goldilocks zone more than 1500 light-years away, researchers have spotted what looks like a massive, floating structure.

We're not saying it's aliens, but it could be aliens.

You see, there's a star called KIC 8462852, and according to Yale University post doctorate Tabetha Boyajian and a bunch of citizen scientists, little Kic has a bunch of things surrounding it that is blocking the light.

Things that could be buildings.

“It was kind of unbelievable that it was real data,” Boyajian told New Scientist. “We were scratching our heads. For any idea that came up there was always something that would argue against it.”

Penn State University astronomer Jason Wright calls it a "swarm of megastructures” in The Atlantic, saying: "Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilisation to build.”

The theory goes that these structures could orbit a star in a habitable zone like a big, floating ring.

Another hypothesis is they are a bunch of unusual comets that are acting strangely due to nearby star movements.

One thing is certain -- it will be a very long time until we can get there to see it for ourselves.
