It's been a couple of weeks since daylight saving kicked into gear, but have you been making the most of those extra hours of evening sunlight?

Time and time again, research has shown getting outside is good for you, so why not utilise those after-work hours to get outdoors?

If you're needing some outdoor inspiration, look no further. The Huffington Post Australia has complied a list of our favourite alfresco activities to pursue after you're done for the day. (Soz, Queensland, NT and WA. This post obviously doesn't apply to you.)

Head to the beach

If you're lucky enough to live near the ocean, daylight saving presents the perfect opportunity to ramp up your beach time. Why not take your togs to work and head to the beach the minute you clock off? The sun will still be high in the sky and it's a perfect way to wash off the day.

Still a bit too nippy to get in the water? Why not go for a stroll, run in the soft sand for a work out or simply drink in the view. Your body (and mind) will thank you for it.

Nothing quite like a salt water dip to end the working day.

Go for a walk

It doesn't matter whether you go for a bush bash or take a stroll around your neighbourhood -- walking is a great way to get out and about with numerous health benefits to boot.

Who knows? You could stumble across a new bar or restaurant you never would have noticed if you hadn't hit the pavement -- or, you could get out into nature and explore. Take a mate with you and find out how quickly the time flies when you're gas-bagging as you go. Sydney-siders can check out five awesome walks to try here.

Get in a garden

You don't necessarily have to have a green thumb to get a kick out of gardening. There's something about rolling up your sleeves and getting dirty at the end of the day that many people find therapeutic.

Plus, depending on what you plant, there's the added bonus of prettying up your backyard (or maybe even growing some vegies that can contribute to that night's dinner).

For those who don't have enough space for a garden, don't despair. There are plenty of community options that will not only see you getting out and about, but meeting others in your neighbourhood.

Or, if you have a balcony, that's more than enough space to grow some herbs -- find out what kinds are best suited to your place here.

Go on. Get dirty.

Have a barbecue or picnic

Take advantage of the balmy air and take your cooking outside. If you have your own barbecue at home -- why not have some friends around for a mid-week meal? Alternatively, head to a park or beach with barbecues and make your dinner alfresco.

Or you could ditch the barbecue idea all together and take a picnic. How much more fun is dinner when you can sit outside in the sunshine?

Take up a sport

The idea of heading down to the local tennis courts when it's pitch black and chilly might not be so appealing -- but it's a different kettle of fish when the sun is shining.

Whether it's tennis, basketball, or even some good old fashioned handball with mates, learning a new sport is a great way to get active and catch up with friends -- or even make new ones. Beats the gym, any day.

Next stop, Wimbledon.

Or failing all of this -- you could just do what so many Aussies consider the epitome of summer. Head to a beer garden, order a cold one and marvel at how good life is when it's still sunny at 7pm. Just don't have too many schooners mid-week or you'll feel the opposite of sunny in the morning.
