There Really Is Wisdom In Pessimism

There Really Is Wisdom In Pessimism

Could a solid dose of pessimism really be the way to ensure contentment?

Philosopher and founder of The School Of Life, Alain de Botton, believes so.

In this short film created by Claudio Salas, the benefits of a negative outlook are explored primarily through the reasoning that happiness equals expectations over reality.

This short film asks the questions, are expectations the downfall of society? And if these are managed do we really have a greater chance at feeling joy?

With inspiring quips like "almost all your hopes are going to be dashed, mediocrity is the norm", it's predictably clever and well argued from de Botton.

It's one for the cynical, one for the realists and maybe even something for the optimists.
