Sydney’s newest suburb Barangaroo officially opened its Wulugul Walk on Wednesday -- an open-air precinct set along the harbourside waterfront which will house a mix of restaurant and bar pop-ups for a period of nine months before the full fixture of permanent offerings is revealed late next year.
While the focus has largely been on the commercial side of the global business hub, Wulugul Walk is aiming to entice both the working community and general public with interactive events, experiential spaces and street food experiences.
By 2016, The Streets of Barangaroo -- the name given to the precinct surrounding the southern towers -- will house approximately 80 food and beverage outlets and retail stores with 50 of them being food offerings.
Set between two residential complexes, Anadara and Alexander, Wulugul Walk will become the temporary home for Gin & It -- a gin bar installed by Mikey Enright and Petr Dvoracek (the guys behind The Barber Shop) -- along with Belle’s Hot Chicken and Malaysian hawker food sensation, Mamak.
René Redzepi’s Noma restaurant will also pop up for a 10-week period from January 26 on the ground level of the Anadara complex.
Barangaroo is set to have its own ferry hub by the end of next year, however until then ferries arrive and depart from King Street Wharf.
Wulugul Walk is open from 11am to 11pm, 7 days a week.
