Police have charged the parents of a 6-day-old baby boy after the family went missing in western Sydney, sparking a search by authorities.

The infant was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick by family members on Saturday night, police said.

He is currently being cared for there by medical staff.

The baby's 25-year-old father was arrested at Mascot about 6pm Saturday, while his mother, 28, was arrested later at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

They were both charged over outstanding arrest warrants

On Saturday, police issued a public plea to help locate the family after they went missing from Regents Park earlier this week.

Police and other government agencies had "serious concerns for the welfare of the child".

The pair were refused bail and will face Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
