The BFG Film Adaptation Showcased In Magical First Trailer

Attention Kids Of The 80s and 90s: 'The BFG' Trailer Is Here
Disney

Fans of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel The BFG have been treated to the first trailer released for the film.

The trailer shows young orphan Sophie spotting the BFG during the ‘witching hour’ and being snatched -- presumably to be taken to Giant Country by the world’s friendliest, and biggest, giant.

Filming for the movie took place between March and June this year, and it’s slated for a July 2016 release.

The film is being directed by Steven Spielberg and is co-produced by Disney, with Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill starring as the BFG and Sophie respectively.

It’s not the first movie adaptation of The BFG, though. A direct-to-television film debuted on Christmas Day in 1989 and produced memorable scenes like this one, where Sophie and The BFG are jettisoned around the room, propelled by gases created when they drink fizzy “frobscottle”.

It’ll be interesting to see the 2016 take on that scene, as well as how the film depicts ‘snozzcumbers’ -- the terrible tasting vegetable giants snack on, and the horrific other giants that live near the BFG.
