A stunt woman who appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Mad Max: Fury Road is to have her arm amputated after a horrific on-set accident earlier this year.

Olivia Jackson, 34, was filming a high-speed motorbike chase for the latest Resident Evil film, The Final Chapter, near Johannesburg, South Africa in September when a stunt went horribly wrong.

The British stunt double for actress Milla Jovovich reportedly crashed into a metal camera arm, after the contraption malfunctioned.

The camera arm was supposed to lift up just in time for Ms Jackson to pass underneath, The Sun reported, quoting an unnamed source.

"It was totally out of her control. She had no chance. She is a lovely lady, the most generous person you could ever meet," the source reportedly said.

The experienced stunt woman was put into an induced coma, suffering severe head injuries, a punctured lung, and a mangled arm from the crash, The Sun reported.

At the time, her husband and fellow stunt performer David Grant said his wife was "fighting hard".

"She's my inspiration and my world and one tough little mother f----r!," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"She's fighting hard and the team of people working on Olive have been amazing and have been doing some incredible work. Thanks again to everybody! I whisper to her everyday telling her about the support she's getting world wide!"

But on Tuesday Ms Jackson revealed that her injuries were so severe she would lose her left arm.

"My left arm is paralysed and is going to have to be amputated," she told The Sun.

"My facial scarring is horrible and I wish I had my old face. But I'm truly grateful to be alive," she said.

Resident Evil's production company Constantin Film told The Independent their "thoughts and prayers are with Olivia and her family during her recovery process".

"Olivia Jackson, a stunt performer on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was injured during a stunt motorbike action sequence on Saturday just outside Johannesburg," the German production company said in a statement.

Ms Jackson has worked on several blockbuster films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron as the stunt double for Elizabeth Olsen, and Karen Gillan's double in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Ms Jackson's last Instagram post has been inundated with well wishers from all over the world.

Fans from Russia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, the US and south east Asia told the stunt woman to "stay strong".

"Nothing is impossible, especially with the love of your family and friends. I hope that your body and soul will recover soon. :) Big hug from Argentina," wrote one commenter.
