Any dog owner can attest to the pure joy their pup exhibits while running free in the local park, sniffing about their canine mates and getting their noses into any available shrub, bush or tree.

Similarly, cat owners know all too well that their feline friends will sniff and chew pretty much any new object brought into the house, with bunches of flowers being no exception.

But did you know that the humble lily is toxic to cats? In fact, one in five toxic plant exposures in pets are due to lilies, making them the most common plant for pet poisoning.

What's worse is that symptoms don't appear until hours later, when most often it's far too late. Those savvy to the fact would need to catch their cat in the act and take them straight to the vet.

Flora and fauna lovers can use this helpful chart to read up on which plants and flowers are toxic to cats and dogs. These plants should be removed from apartments and gardens and completely avoided wherever possible.
