The 36-year-old mother-of-two from Happy Valley was taken to hospital with critical head injuries where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police said the man had been refused entry to the club and that he attacked her while she was speaking to another woman.

“The male person has struck her from behind to her face and chest which resulted in her head making contact with the ground,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman told Channel 9.

The Parkside man is due to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with grievous bodily harm.

The Buffs Club executive manager Karen Graham told the ABC that staff were shocked by the attack.

"We're all devastated. Completely devastated," she said.

"This is one of our family. She is a great person, she is a great mum and she just doesn't deserve this. Nobody deserves this."
