Scores of NSW firefighters will head to Tasmania to help battle out-of-control bushfires raging across the state as a 4-day total fire ban is declared amid forecasts of more extreme conditions.
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said about 50 firefighters would fly out for Tasmania at noon on Saturday.
More than 50 fires are currently burning in Tasmania and a total fire ban has been declared across the state for the next four days in an effort to help firefighters get the upper hand on the uncontrolled blazes.
The ban is for the entire state and runs until midnight on Australia Day.
It is reportedly the first time the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) has had to impose such a lengthy ban.
RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the NSW firies would be working in challenging conditions.
"A hundred specialist remote area firefighters comprising volunteers from the RFS, National Parks and the ACT (will be) all going in to work in some remote, some very difficult to access terrain," he told Macquarie Radio.
On Friday, a number of bushfires threatened communities across the state including a fierce blaze at Nunamara, near Launceston.
The situation has improved since then and all blazes are now at advice level, the Tasmania Fire Service said.
The temperature is set to reach almost 30 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state on Saturday, before a cool change sweeps through.
