Bought an Apple laptop or product in the last decade? Your charger might be dangerous.

Apple today announced a major recall of wall chargers "shipped with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2015" that were sold in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and Brazil. The reason? The chargers "may break and create a risk of electrical shock if touched".

The electronics giant said it was aware of 12 incidents worldwide and announced a voluntary recall for the chargers.

"Because customer safety is the company’s top priority, Apple is asking customers to stop using affected plug adapters. Customers should visit www.apple.com/support/ac-wallplug-adapter for details about how to exchange the affected adapters for new, redesigned ones," the company said in a statement.

Apple said the fault did not affect "any other Apple AC wall plug adapters designed for Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, United States or any Apple USB power adapters" -- only the specific chargers and countries mentioned above.

Want to check if your charger is affected? Look at the inside slot of the charger where it connects to the power adapter.

"An affected wall plug adapter has 4 or 5 characters or no characters on the inside slot... redesigned adapters have a 3-letter regional code in the slot (EUR, KOR, AUS, ARG or BRA)," Apple said. For more information on identifying affected chargers, click here.
