Michael Clarke looks set to make a cricket comeback, saying he misses the game and wants to play again.

The former Australian captain retired at the end of last year's Ashes series, where Australia lost to England 3-2.

“To step away from cricket for four months has been great, I have found my body has enjoyed it and my mind has really enjoyed it too,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.

“At the same time I’ve realised the game of cricket is in my blood. I’ve been looking for an outlet to replace what I’ve chosen to walk away from."

He said he'd love to play in the Big Bash League, which has just seen out a record season.

“There’s BBL next summer, I’d love to be a part of that, IPL, county cricket. There’s possibly even Sheffield Shield cricket for NSW.”

At the time of his retirement, Clarke said his play wasn't up to scratch.

"Unfortunately I haven't played as well as I would have liked and I think it's the right thing and the right time to give the Australian team and the next captain that chance to prepare for the next Ashes series,” he said.

But less than a year on, his outlook has changed.

“All I know is, I’ll never say never to anything. I’ll start with Western Suburbs and we will see where it takes me. For now, my focus is definitely the shorter format of the game.”

In November last year, Clarke and wife Kyly Boldy welcomed their first child, a baby girl.

“I’ve loved spending time with Kyly and little Kelsey Lee, no doubt having a daughter has definitely softened me,” he told The Sunday Telegraph. “So much of the stuff that used to do my head in, I can just see it for what it is now.

“It doesn’t worry me, I don’t get wound up, it’s a lot easier to put things in perspective.”
