Elton John has given a major shoutout to one of Australia’s most exciting talents, Sarah Blasko in James Corden’s latest Carpool Karaoke segment.
In between belting out a smorgasbord of the music legend’s hit records including “Your Song” and “Tiny Dancer” John casually mentioned the Sydney-based musician in the same sentence as Ed Sheeran and Grimes.
The name dropping came as a result of Corden quizzing John about whether he wakes up every morning and “just thinks, I’m Elton John, I’m an absolute legend” (to be fair, it’s a valid question).
“No, no -- I’m only looking forward I don’t look back,” John responded before explaining further at around the six-minute mark:
“When you hear something by someone new like when you first hear Ed Sheeran or this girl called Grimes or there’s a girl in Australia called Sarah Blasko -- whenever you hear something new that inspires you from the young it makes you feel like ‘I’m going to do that, I want to do that,’” John said.
The singer-songwriter was obviously pretty flattered by the news and took to Twitter on Monday night to send her thanks.
Blasko recently made headlines for her David Bowie tribute on triple j’s Like A Version when she covered “Life on Mars”.
Elton's right, she is awe-inspiring.
