Incredible footage has emerged of the heartstopping moment a mother and a child were dragged from a sinking car in Amsterdam with just moments to spare.
The dramatic clip shows four men jumping into the Schinkel River and swarming towards the rapidly sinking car with the pair trapped inside.
The mother and child were dragged from the car just seconds before it plunged out of sight and were taken ashore to safety as passers-by could only watch on and hold their breath.
The group have been praised for their incredibly quick thinking and bravery. A Dutch video report said one of the men, who was sitting in his office at the time, allegedly grabbed a hammer and quickly dove into the canal.
The incident has raised questioning over the need for safety barriers to be installed on river edges.
