It's been a big day for Australian batsman Adam Voges. First, he brushed aside a record held by Sachin Tendulkar, then he dared to surpass the 99.94 batting average of Sir Donald Bradman.
Earlier on day two of the first trans-Tasman Test against New Zealand at Basin Reserve, Wellington, Voges eclipsed a record previously held by the highest ever Test runs scorer, bettering Tendulkar for the most Test runs between dismissals.
The Western Australian reached 127 not out, meaning his 502 Test runs broke the 12-year-old tally of prolific Indian batsman Tendulkar, who notched 497 consecutive runs with scores of 241n/o, 60n/o, 194n/o and 2 from January to April 2004.
The 36-year-old has not been dismissed since the pink ball Test in Adelaide, and social media lit up with praise for Voges -- including retired opener Chris Rogers:
Later in the third session of the second day, Voges reached 172 and in doing so brought his average to 100 runs from 19 Test innings, beating Bradman's storied 99.94. He finished with 176 n/o at stumps.
Voges' third Test century in consecutive innings -- and fifth overall -- capitalised on another hundred from Usman Khawaja and allowed the Aussies to take the wheel of the first Test.
The in-form Khawaja completed his fourth Test hundred before lunch, but fell for 140 midway through the second session.
Australia finished with 6/463 at stumps.
