Former Geelong player Garry Lyon has left his role on the AFL Footy Show as he deals with a mental health problem.
Fairfax Media reports that Lyon has shelved his media commitments and is believed to be dealing with depression after a bust-up with Footy Show colleague Billy Brownless.
According to a statement from Network Nine released on Saturday, Lyon has been suffering a "serious mental health condition and he will take time out from all media roles to recover".
"There is no set timeframe as to when he will return to television," the statement from Nine said.
Nine Melbourne managing director Ian Paterson said he hoped Lyon would be back to good health very soon.
"Our priority is his wellbeing," Paterson said.
“Garry has our full support. From here on, it’s a private and personal matter and we ask that be respected.”
James Brayshaw will reportedly step in to replace Lyon when The Footy Show returns from March. Damian Barrett is said to be set to fill in for Lyon on Footy Classified.
According to the Herald Sun, Lyon’s mental health took a hit after the deterioration in his relationship with good friend and Footy Show co-host Brownless.
