After last week’s carpool karaoke featuring Elton John and a fancy dress box, you’d think James Corden would be running out of tricks, but as Thursday night’s segment with Sia showed -- the British comic just keeps on giving.
The skit opened with Corden calling his workplace, CBS Studios to let them know he’s running late after getting lost. Luckily for him, he bumps into Sia on the streets of Los Angeles who agrees to jump in his car and help him find his way.
“I’m good with directions,” Sia, who can barely see through her wig, nonchalantly tells Corden.
The 10-minute segment had everything -- alien talk, tips on how to belt out a tune Sia-style and the Australian artist even revealed her very impressive party trick, balancing a dozen eggs on the top of her hands (she has double jointed fingers).
But perhaps the most moving moment was when the Grammy-nominated artist opened up about why she covers up her face.
“I don’t wear this unless there’s cameras around. I only wear this to maintain a modicum of privacy,” Sia said.
Before explaining further that for the 10 or 11 years prior to becoming famous she had a mediocre singing career and when it did eventually take off there were challenges.
“I was an alcoholic and a drug addict, and I sobered up and decided I didn’t want to be an artist anymore because I was starting to get a little bit famous -- and it was destabilising in some ways,” Sia said.
“So I thought what doesn’t exist in pop music at the moment? And it was mystery,” Sia said.
All of this plus Corden and Sia belting out hits like “Chandelier”, “Alive”, “Titanium” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds” made for a pretty awesome segment with the added bonus of course of having an Aussie in the passenger seat.
