A Brisbane tattoo artist offering to conceal old self-harm scars for free has been overwhelmed with requests and other artists are following her lead.
Whitney Develle, 22, offered 50 free sessions for people wanting to cover scars in order to "move forward from their past". More than 400 people requested to be considered, spurring her to also offer heavily discounted sessions.
Develle told 9 News she was inspired to offer her services free after working with a friend to cover her scars.
"She told me how much pain it brought her when people would question her about them or make comments,” Develle told 9 News.
"I want you to be able to look down at the scars that bring you pain, embarrassment, shame, and be able to put those feelings behind you and instead feel proud of the body part that now contains art and offers a new beginning," Develle said on Instagram.
Garage Ink Tattoo in Brisbane is supporting the offer, calling it: "so beautiful to be able to give such a wonderful gift".
