Madonna has continued her spree of rocking up late to concerts by starting her Melbourne show more than four hours late.

The pop star, who is in Australia on her "Rebel Heart" tour, was meant to unveil a new, more intimate show titled "Tears of a Clown" at Melbourne's Forum Theatre on Thursday night, only to make her first appearance at 12.50am on Friday morning. The show was supposed to start at 8.30pm.

However, for the most part, fans didn't seem to mind the late start, especially considering tickets to the once-off performance were free.

It is far from the first time Madge has rocked up late to her own performances, with the star failing to appear on time at many of the "Rebel Heart" tour concerts. Fans, who have been paying top dollar to attend these gigs, have been less than enthused.

In some instances, concert attendees were left guessing as to whether the Queen of Pop was performing drunk, while at her concert in New Zealand last week, she broke down into tears when dedicating a song to her 15-year-old son Rocco.

Once she did finally take the stage in Melbourne on Friday morning, Madonna treated fans to a unique carnival-themed show and apologised for her tardiness. She also told the crowd she was not making any money from her tour, due to late fees in many of the cities she has performed in.

She also referred to her much publicised custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over Rocco, and relayed stories of her ex-husband Sean Penn's time in jail.

Despite largely positive reviews, given the late starting time (on a school night!), not everyone actually made it to the concert in the end. Listen to the audio of one disappointed fan, who gave after three hours of waiting in the rain, below.

Madonna's "Rebel Heart" tour will recommence on Saturday, 12 March, at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
