Game Of Thrones Cast Unite For Syrian Refugees

We’re used to seeing them in wraparound dresses and war armour, but on Sunday the Game Of Thrones cast was donning normal clothes, appealing for support and awareness of the millions of displaced refugees escaping war, famine and destruction.

Partnering with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the HBO fantasy series launched the “Rescue Without Boundaries” campaign calling for donations and support for the real life victims of the Syrian refugee crisis.

Led by Lena Headey who plays Cersei Lannister, the cast of the hotly anticipated sixth series highlight the plight of the situation across Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Serbia and Greece.

“In Syria alone, after five years of war, half of the population has fled their homes,” Headey said.

The IRC is providing relief for over 3 million people across the region, helping thousands of families who have been offered safe haven in the United States to start over and rebuild their lives.

“Refugees, families, children struggling to stay alive, real people, now on the most dangerous journey of all.”

"This is no fiction, no fantasy," the cast said in the video.

The cast invites viewers to “rise up and stand with us” to help bring the thousands of families to safety.

The campaign will run through the series’ upcoming sixth season, beginning April 24, with the goal of raising $1 million.
