The three kilometre runway at Avalon Airport in Melbourne recently got a workout. Not from just another plane, but a car racing a Boeing 737.
Qantas' latest partnership with Tesla pitted the plane and the car against each other on the tarmac just south of Melbourne. And the video, while promotional, is pretty damn cool.

Qantas' Boeing 737-800 went head to head with the Tesla Model S P90D electric car, and the two electric motors didn't do too badly at all against the two jet engines.
The electronic car took the lead for a while, speeding ahead to reach the plane's top ground speed of 250 kilometres per hour until the 737 reached its take off speed of 140 knots (260 kilometres per hour).
The video promotes the collaboration between Qantas and Tesla to "drive innovation and sustainability" -- with all the carbon emissions from the race offset under Qantas' Future Planet Program.
