A Taxi Driver Texts And Drinks To See What Bothers People More

You're paying him good money to drive you around, and your taxi driver turns to his phone or the bottle -- what bothers you more?

A new hidden camera ad, by agency MullenLowe for the Safe Roads Alliance in the U.S aiming to raise awareness for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, put this question to the test.

Here's how it unfolded:

Don't worry. The cans of beer were energy drinks and the vodka was water, but it aggravated passengers -- with some hailing abuse and others snatching the beverages out of his hands. Contrarily, the taxi driver texting only caused silent outrage in the back seat. But the damage it can cause on the roads is something to worry about.

“People text and drive. These same people know that texting and driving is a bad idea. Yet, in a classic case of ‘It won’t happen to me,’ they continue to do it,” MullenLowe Creative Director John Kearse said in a media release.

“Far more people are injured in distracted driving accidents than drunk driving. Obviously, drunk driving is nothing to joke about, and is something any reasonable person would classify as a terrible idea. Why do we view texting and driving differently?”
