Tame Impala and Peking Duk were recognised at the Australiasian Performing Right Association in Sydney on Tuesday night, but the biggest winner was Courtney Barnett, named Songwriter of the Year knocking Sia off her three-year winning streak.
Awards ceremonies and trophies are proving a regular thing for Melbourne’s Barnett, who earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist along with four ARIA awards last year for her acclaimed debut album, “Sometimes I Sit And Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit".
Barnett’s win ended Sia’s history-making three year tenure as Songwriter of the Year, but it wasn’t all bad for Sia -- who was awarded Most Played Australian Work Overseas for her song “Chandelier”, ending Goyte's three-year winning streak for “Somebody That I Used To Know.”
Perth band Tame Impala proved once again their knack for psychedelic rock winning Song of the Year for their hit “Let It Happen”, written by band frontman Kevin Parker.
Meanwhile Peking Duk AKA Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde took out two awards for Most Played Australian Work and Dance Work Of The Year.
Posting to Facebook the duo said, “It's a huge honor to even be put up against Sia and Jarryd James and Vance Joy. Honestly too stoked right now to have won this.”
South Australia’s Hilltop Hoods took out Best Urban Work for their hit “Cosby Sweater” while Cold Chisel received the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music.
