The Best Online Mat Workouts

All you need is the internet and a mat.

If you're looking to get fit for spring, an online workout is the perfect way to start. You'll get the ease and comfort of an at-home workout but with the guidance of an expert. Here we've rounded up our favourite mat-based workouts with a focus on ballet, dance and yoga to kickstart your new season routine and get you ready for summer.

Ballet

The trend for ballet is here to stay thanks in part to it being a favourite workout of the Victoria's Secret Angels, many of whom go to professional ballerina Mary Helen Bowers, founder of Ballet Beautiful. Bowers offers workouts to stream on her Ballet Beautiful website, as well as the opportunity to take part in live classes, but from the comfort of your own home.

UK-based Sleek Technique was set up by ex-Royal Ballet ballerinas Flik Swan and Victoria Marr, who now pass on their graceful moves and ballet knowledge online via their ballet-inspired streaming workouts and live classes.

Barre 3 takes ballet and combines it with yoga and Pilates for their challenging barre-based class. Their website offers over 200 workouts to choose from that will build strength, flexibility and fitness.

Dance

Body by Simone is the dance workout loved by celebrities like Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely. If this has got you motivated to try a class, head to the BBS site to try BBS TV, which offers unlimited access to BBS workouts and exclusive online content.

Tracy Anderson is famed for training the honed bodies of Madonna and Gywneth Paltrow, and her famous dance workouts are now available online for everyone to enjoy thanks to weekly real-time workout videos.

Another celeb favorite, Anna Kaiser, also offers online streaming on her AKT InMotion site. Her dance-inspired classes mix yoga, Pilates, cardio, strength training and plyometrics (jump training) to ensure you never get bored and your body never plateaus.

Yoga

Yoga with Adriene has built up a huge online following, partly thanks to her free and extensive collection of yoga videos on her YouTube channel. Her videos can also be found on her website with yoga classes for all types of moods and levels, as well specific online courses available to buy.

Like Yoga with Adriene, Tara Stiles also offers fitness inspiration and motivation via her own website, as well as free yoga classes on her own YouTube channel, while Yoga Glo's classes are taught by a variety of instructors to offer classes for all levels and all yogis.
