The First 'Rogue One' Trailer Is A 'Star Wars' Nerd's Dream

Fans of the original trilogy, this is the trailer you're looking for.

Disney dropped the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" trailer early on Thursday, and it's clear that the nostalgia is strong with this one.

The story will pick up with rebels trying to steal plans for the Empire's "new weapon," aka the Death Star, so fans are getting pretty hyped over the return of that. A mysterious hooded figure has people predicting an appearance by Darth Vader or the Emperor, and there's also a shot of rebels running at AT-ATs that looks like it could be a scene from "Saving Private Ryan" in space. Aka it looks awesome.

Not everything has the power of the Force, though. Maybe it's just the vision of director Gareth Edwards, but the movie doesn't necessarily look as polished as "The Force Awakens." Perhaps we'll just have to wait for more trailers to come out to be sure.

As long as that "Saving Private Ryan" shot doesn't indicate the actual rebel mission is to save Matt Damon, this is the trailer fans of the original trilogy have been looking for.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed and opens in theaters December 16, 2016.
