There's a girl out there who was covertly photographed in a supermarket by a stranger whose mate then shared it on Facebook with the promise: I'll be there every night waiting for you.

And people are calling it romantic. That chill down your spine's not a gust from the freezer aisle, it's the unshakable sense someone is watching you.

The message was posted to the Woolworths Facebook page on Monday by the Romeo-in-question's mate, saying "my friend Brok... glanced over at the girl of his dreams", asking the supermarket to "do what you do best and bring these two together".

The buddy also delivered the potentially creepy promise: "Girl buying mushrooms if you read this, we will be in this section every night at 7:38pm until we meet again".

In other words, unless you want to be confronted with unrequited love in the fresh produce aisle at Q Super Centre, Mermaid Waters, it's time to find a new supermarket.

They've followed through too -- here's Brok waiting in the mushroom aisle for the "mystery brunette".

The comments below the original post range from supportive you-can-do-it platitudes to borderline harassment suggestions like: "Should've just chucked a cucumber at her and winked, works every time!".

Shane Griese offers: "It's a lovely gesture, but I gotta say if you have enough time to take a photo of her while she's unaware like a creep then surely you had enough time to pluck up the courage and go and talk to her like a gentleman? Get in there and take a chance next time buddy, positive thinking produces positive results."

Woolies has weighed in to tell the poster "we still think you're a great wing-man" and suggesting "Next time tell Brok not to be chicken, just rice up and say hello! We hear love grows in the produce department".

Here's a thought, how about suggesting Brok not take photos of random strangers and sharing them on social media?
