There comes a time in every man's life when he is going to need to suit up. Depending on he does for a living, it could be an everyday occurrence a la Harvey Specter, or, if you're feeling more of a Bondi Hipsters vibe, it could happen only once in a blue moon.

But regardless of frequency, when the time comes, you want to be looking more Barney Stinson than Barney from 'The Simpsons'... so it's important you choose your suit carefully.

Here's where Luc Wiesman comes in.

Founder of D'Marge, the men's styling blog "for magnificent bastards", Wiesman has a pretty good idea when it comes to what suits when it comes to, well, you know. Suits.

Here's what he has to say.

What, in your opinion, makes a good men's suit?

"Itā€™s a combination of cloth, craftsmanship and cut. Bespoke suits are traditionally very expensive because of these three factors," Wiesman told The Huffington Post Australia.

"For mere mortals ā€˜off the pegā€™ suits are mass produced and so serve a purpose, however the shape and quality tends to never be as good."

What should a suit indicate about its owner?

"It tells the world they take pride in their appearance and have an appreciation of quality. The guys rocking white socks and fake snakeskin loafers at the races sadly donā€™t share this vision."

What sort of suit would you recommend someone invest in if they are only going to own one?

"We recommend guys look at something in the middle with a service such as 'made-to-measureā€™. These tend to be between $1,000 - $2,000 and offer good value."

Are there any suit brands/Instagram accounts you would recommend looking into?

"Well @dmarge of course... But @pjohnsontailors and @zimmatailors are also great."

Buy or rent? Discuss.

"If you never rent a suit, that will be the end of it -- I will not look for you, I will not pursue you... but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you... and I will beat you with a fake snakeskin loafer."

How should a man style/accessorise his suit?

"Always use a pocket square. Try lapel pins too but be careful not to throw in too many colours. Youā€™ll end up looking like Geoffrey Edelsten."

Any suit style 'don'ts'?

"White socks, snakeskin loafers, baggy trousers, creased shirts, novelty tiesā€¦. the list goes on. We recommend guys read this article -- it should help make them look a million.

What are some suit trends coming into fashion to be aware of?

"Blue suits are still big but youā€™ll see more brands trying bolder checks and colours this season. Weā€™re not too sure how Australian men will take to thisā€¦. only time will tell."

If you're feeling daring, try.....

"Wearing a t-shirt instead of a shirt and sneakers. Itā€™s my go to smart casual look at the moment."

If you are Mr Conservative, stick withā€¦

"A navy suit. You canā€™t go wrong and they always look sharpā€¦. donā€™t forget your pocket square."

At the end of the day, how should a suit make you feel?

"Like the world is looking at you because you look so goddamn magnificent."
