People Don't Adopt Black Dogs, Which is Bad News For Bobby Here. Can You Help?

The Tragic Reason Nobody is Adopting This Adorable Puppy

This is Bobby. He's as cute as a button shop full of buttons. That's the first thing you need to know.

The second thing you need to know is that Bobby could be yours. Bow wow! Yep, he could. You just need a genuine commitment to giving him a loving home for the next decade or so and Bobby will be your forever buddy.

The third thing you need to know is more serious. Time is running out for Bobby. He's in a kennel right now but captivity is no good for his soul. Bobby was born in foster care in January 2015, and since then has been shunted from one foster home to another. Sniff.

He's seen enough wire fencing in his life.

He's never had a family. And that just about breaks the heart of Linda Richards, a dedicated volunteer at Best Friends Rescue, a network of volunteer foster carers in south east Queensland.

"Heis over it," Richards told The Huffington Post Australia. "The time is right for Bobby to have a home of his own."

Richards is currently paying for Bobby to be housed in a really lovely, well-kept kennel facility in the glasshouse mountains now. He even gets walked every day there, which many kennels don't do. But it's still not ideal. Richards also spends plenty of her own time and petrol money visiting Bobby twice weekly to give him extra exercise and hugs.

So why won't anyone adopt Bobby?

This is the tragic part. There is a well-documented thing called "BDS" or "Black Dog Syndrome". Not everyone believes it's true (as you can see from one of the links below) but anecdotally speaking, it's the syndrome whereby people are reluctant to adopt black pets of all kinds.

What the hell did we do wrong? And what are these weird things around our necks?

But why? One theory says it's because those big puppy dog eyes don't contrast as adorably against dark fur. Richards has another thought.

"Some people think black dogs must be scarier. It's almost like a form of racism where they're being judged by their outside, not their temperament."

Which is so unfair because Bobby is an absolute sweetheart. Not to mention the perfect pet.

“He is smart, very active and happy, and loves his ball. He will play fetch for hours! He’s sweet and funny, loves snuggling and is very affectionate," she said.

Make Bobby your hobby. And that's an order.

Who doesn't need an extra snuggle or two on a long weekend?
