Woman Catches On Fire On Melbourne Street

The woman has suffered burns to her back and legs.

A woman, thought to be a street performer, has caught fire in Melbourne on Monday.

A spokeswoman from Ambulance Victoria told The Huffington Post Australia the woman, believed to be in her 20s, suffered burns to her back and legs.

The ambulance was called to Freshwater Place at around 12.30pm.

"The woman was then taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition," the spokeswoman said.

Sky News Melbourne Bureau Chief, Ahron Young, live-tweeted the incident that occurred just below the Sky News offices.

"We could hear screaming from the office. About 20 people rushed to help. People tipping water on her," Young wrote.

Young tweeted that the woman was put onto a stretcher before being put into an ambulance.
