Three children who went missing on Wednesday in Adelaide's south have been found "safe and well".

South Australia Police reported the siblings disappeared from Bice Oval at Christies Beach on Wednesday night.

Superintendent Ian Parrott said the siblings were now in the custody of "appropriate authorities".

"A man has been detained by police at this time for breaching his bail, but importantly the children are safe and well," Parrott said.

The detained man has not been identified.

According to police, Ethan Lawson, 12, Jayden Lawson, 10, and six-year-old Sienna Dodd were dropped off at the oval for football training.

"The trio ran off, but were not found at the time despite an extensive search," a police statement said on Thursday.

Detectives initially believed the children intended to go to their father's house in a nearby suburb, but police said they would not make any further comments on the incident.
