Former Australian Idol host James Mathison made some serious waves when he announced he would run against Tony Abbott in Warringah, but another former Idol star has also entered the campaign -- Axle Whitehead, infamously known for exposing himself at the 2006 ARIAs.

Whitehead, who featured in the debut season of Idol in 2003, later hosted music clip show Video Hits for a number of years before appearing in The Secret Life of Us, then Home and Away, before trying his luck in the U.S. He appeared on Shameless and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Yep, that's him. But he may be remembered most infamously for exposing his penis, and simulating masturbation on a trophy, at the 2006 ARIA awards.

Anyway, with that history behind us, and that image fresh in your mind, Whitehead has made his long-awaited return to Australian screens by endorsing Duncan McGauchie, the Liberal candidate for Murray. Whitehead, wearing a hat that appears to say "Me Undies", tries to teach locals how to say the candidate's name. For the record, it's "Mer-gekky", not "Mc-Gow-Chee".

When will we see an Osher Gunsberg run for the Senate? A Shannon Noll for Prime Minister campaign? Only time will tell.
