A Sydney rail worker has been hit and killed by a train while doing maintenance work in western Sydney.
The Sydney Trains employee was struck carrying out the work between Clyde and Auburn on the western line early Saturday morning.
Sydney Trains said the agency's deepest sympathies went out to the dead man's family.
"Sydney Trains is working with authorities at the scene to determine the cause of this incident," Sydney Trains CEO Howard Collins said in a statement.
"The safety of our workers is our top priority and this incident will be fully investigated by the relevant independent authorities."
He said support was being provided to all those involved as well as the man's family.
Collins also said NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance had been informed.
"Minister Constance has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the family during this difficult time," Collins added.
"We ask for consideration and respect for the family's privacy."
