Liberal Democrat senator David Leyonhjelm has taken aim at a Greens MP who wanted him to condemn a Sydney gun enthusiast backing his party, telling him to "get f***ed".

NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge has alleged a man who appeared in a Youtube video supporting the Liberal Democrats breached the state's firearms laws by unsafely handling and storing the weapons.

The video has since been taken down.

Leyonhjelm, who has made no secret of his support for guns and gun owners, confirmed the incident on Facebook after it was first reported by Buzzfeed News.

"A minor flurry today in response to that dickhead David Shoebridge pretending he knows something about gun laws," Leyonhjelm said. "I said he can go and get f***ed."

In the video, which was reportedly posted by a group calling itself The Sydney Militia, a man named Shaun tells the audience he loves guns -- before showing a lot of them, as well as ammunition and Liberal Democrats election material.

Shoebridge, who is the NSW Greens Justice spokesman, has described the video as disturbing.

"It not only flouts our firearms laws but does so in the context of the upcoming federal election," Shoebridge is reported to have said.
