Free speech advocate and NSW senator David Leyonhjelm has gone on a truly beautiful, truly hypocritical rant, after The Chaser parked a van emblazoned with offensive slogans outside his house.
The senator -- who previously said people who took offence at the controversial and misogynist Wicked Campers vans were 'wowsers' -- has vented his fury at the stunt.
Leyonhjelm first told the hosts to "f*** off" before voicing his displeasure on Twitter, using the high rhetoric only a stately politician can.
The senator maintains the stunt crossed the humour line and was offensive.
Apparently because I don't find this outside my house amusing, I am a free speech hypocrite. Who knew? pic.twitter.com/A88mRX4uB0— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
When my wife is frightened to death at this outside my house, apparently I am hypocritical about free speech. pic.twitter.com/nZhAiQOqTj— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
.@CKMonty There is also a difference between supporting free speech and approving of what is said. Chaser mob seems too thick to realise.— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
.@MelTankardReist If you are unable to understand the concept of free speech, you ought to STFU.— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
@suthernx Another one said: "I'm as happy as David Leyonhjelm with a cock in his mouth".— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
@timpoliti Liar liar liar liar liar liar. Have you got it yet, you moron?— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
.@AdamSpenceAU Homophobic twats frightening my wife are supposed to be funny? You're a sick puppy.— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 29, 2016
Not to be outdone in the free speech stakes, Leyonhjelm also retweeted a former adviser calling one of The Chaser hosts fat and another calling for them to be arrested and "sent on a holiday".
And this from a bloke who once called anti-Wicked Campers campaigners "authoritarians disguised as hippies or feminists".
"They make some very funny statements, which obviously have sexual connotations," he said of the vans at the time -- vans that carried slogans such as "in every princess, there's a little slut who wants to try it just once".
He said sexual connotations are part of life.
"You need to be a particularly wowserish type of person to not find them funny."
Leyonhjelm is reported to have said people were free "not to like" the slogans, but they should "mind their own business".
So perhaps aware of his previous statements and the slight risk he is coming off to the wider world as a raging hypocrite in a satire shop, the senator on Thursday morning retweeted this cartoon:
It's been a loose week for Leyonhjelm, who earlier called a NSW Green MP a 'dickhead' and told him to 'get f***ed' over his complaints about a pro-gun supporter backing Leyonhjelm.
He posted a handy link to it here:

The senator has a history of publicly positing and then defending statements and stances that are wildly offensive to some people:
I hope the whiteface post is also the subject of apology. It offends me, and it would be racist to just focus on one https://t.co/Cj5tjIYY5R— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) February 21, 2016
Or this, when he parodied Kevin Rudd's apology to Indigenous Australians to make a point about tax for some reason:
Our apology to Australia's taxpayers for the "needless pain, suffering and hurt" caused by taxes and regulation. https://t.co/yB7MU2JsPU— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 6, 2016
Maybe he should fill out one of his hurt feelings forms.
We've had a few complaints about our apology to taxpayers. Please complete our official complaints form. pic.twitter.com/PNizrGgsWp— David Leyonhjelm (@DavidLeyonhjelm) June 7, 2016
As for the political wisdom of skating close too close to the ol' hypocrite bowl? Well, the senator seems to have locked in at least one vote.
