Semi Radradra arrives for Eels training on Friday morning.

Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra has been charged with domestic violence and served with an apprehended violence order (AVO).

Radradra's abrupt exit from Australia to Fiji prompted speculation he was quitting the NRL to play rugby union. The player returned to Sydney on Thursday night and was arrested at the International Airport before being charged.

NSW Police confirmed the charges in a statement in the early hours of Friday morning.

"A 24-year-old man has been charged following investigations into reports of domestic violence.

About 10.30pm yesterday (Thursday 30 June 2016), a 24-year-old man was arrested after disembarking from an international flight at Sydney Airport.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was questioned in relation to three allegations of domestic violence that occurred in 2014 and 2015.

As a result of investigations the man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm domestic violence and two counts of common assault domestic violence.

The man was also served with an apprehended violence order."

The winger's former partner Perina Ting made a statement to police and applied for an AVO, according to Fairfax.

Parramatta has issued a statement addressing the charges.

"This is a serious matter and the club is treating it as such.

In accordance with our club's values, Semi will be afforded the presumption of innocence, and we will continue to provide him and his family with all the support and welfare services we have available.

The club will work closely with the relevant authorities and be open with the NRL Integrity Unit throughout this process."
