UPDATE (July 6): Kaley Cuoco apologized after she sparked outrage for posting an Instagram photo of her dogs sitting on an American flag.

On Tuesday night, she shared an image of the flag in the shape of a heart along with a lengthy caption.

"Yesterday I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag," she wrote. "I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post."

She finished it off by adding, "I am not perfect. I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always."

PREVIOUSLY: Like many celebrities this holiday weekend, Kaley Cuoco was just trying to celebrate America's birthday. But after posting a photo of her patriotic pups, things turned sour.

On Monday, "The Big Bang Theory" actress reportedly shared the below photo (it's since been deleted) of her dogs on Instagram, with the caption, "Thank you @the_pet_handler for taking care of the squad while im out of town! 4th of July pups!!!!!!!”

Instagram

At first glance, it seems like an innocent enough pic, meant to celebrate the U.S. However, it was taken to mean something completely different by hordes of people on the internet. According to The New York Post, the image sparked outrage online, with users shaming Cuoco for posting an image of the American flag on the ground.

Fox News noted that one commenter reportedly wrote, “Showing disrespect for the flag, it should never touch the ground, or let your pet stand on it!” while another said, “Shame on you, Kaley. You lost a fan."

Other people weren't as severe in their criticisms, with one commenter suggesting, "Maybe she didn’t know that it was a real flag after all she is out of town," and another adding, "Big fan and I know you didn't mean any disrespect but very disappointed that this pic is still up." Whether or not the object in question is an actual flag is unclear based on the image alone.

Cuoco has yet to respond to the backlash, though the photo has been taken down from her Instagram account. We've reached out to a rep for the actress and will update this post accordingly.

Aside from all the doggy drama, the actress still seems to have enjoyed herself this holiday weekend. She kicked things off by cracking open a cold beer with her boyfriend, Karl Cook, and the two later showed off their patriotic style.

Starting the weekend off the right way! 🎉🇺🇸🍻
