Two of Australia's most beloved landmarks have all but disappeared from view, after a blanket of thick, near-impenetrable fog rolled in over the harbour city on Monday morning.

Sydney's Opera House and Harbour Bridge have been hidden from the skyline around Circular Quay, as the pea-soup fog descended on the area. For a comparison, check out the view from our office (which looks upon Circular Quay) today, as opposed to what it normally looks like. In today's photo, you're supposed to be able to see the Opera House, and though you probably can't see, there's also a massive P&O cruise ship under that fog:

The conditions have seen flights into Sydney airport affected and harbour ferries cancelled, with ferry services affected as far west as Parramatta, 30 kilometres west.

The fog has annoyed some and delighted others, with some crazy pictures from all corners of Sydney being shared on social media.
