Reports are emerging that convicted murderer and former Olympian, Oscar Pistorius, has been rushed to hospital, with one report claiming he had injuries to his wrists.
The South African is currently serving a six year sentence for fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp in his home on Valentine's Day, 2013.
Prison services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, said Pistorius told prison guards that he injured himself falling out of bed.
However, Nxumalo declined to provide further information about Pistorius' injuries, citing medical privacy.
South Africa's City Press has reported that blades were found in Pistorius' jail cell when it was searched on Saturday following the incident.
Pistorius was treated at a private hospital near Pretoria and has now been returned to his jail cell. An investigation is underway.
Last month, South African prosecutors announced that they would appeal Pistorius' six year jail sentence, saying it was too lenient.
The standard minimum sentence for murder in South Africa is 15 years.
