Ho-ly crap. We are bound to have nightmares tonight.

On Tuesday, Entertainment Weekly shared a first look at the new Pennywise, the villain from the upcoming “It” film, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. In a few words, it’s downright terrifying.

Gone is the bright red hair and pure white face paint worn by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries, replaced instead with what might be the most sinister clown since Twisty on “American Horror Story.”

Behold:

Actor Bill Skarsgård will be playing the monster clown who feeds on the fears of children in the new film, which was directed by Andy Muschietti (of “Mama” fame). The real genius behind the new character, though, is costume designer Janie Bryant, who used influences from medieval times, the Renaissance and the Elizabethan and Victorian eras to craft the most sinister ensemble imaginable.

Bryant played with multiple eras as a way of reflecting Pennywise’s immortality and added a “doll-like quality to the costume.”

“The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality,” she explained to EW.

Shudder.

“It” will hit theaters in the fall of 2017.
